BESS Zuidvelde

The Battery Energy Storage System (hereinafter referred to as BESS) in Zuidvelde is currently the largest project under development. The EOS will be connected to the Dutch electricity grid in Q4 of 2026.

The permit application for the BESS is currently underway with a capacity of 40 MW and a storage capacity of 160 MWh. This means that the BESS will make a significant contribution to stabilising the electricity grid. Despite this significant contribution, the space occupied by the EOS is not very large. Less than 3,000 square metres are needed to house the entire battery: 36 battery containers and 6 transformer/inverter combinations. The BESS will be a so-called co-located battery, as it will be located next to the Zuidvelde Solar Park. The battery will also share the grid connection with the 50 MW Zuidvelde Solar Park.
