BESS Zuidvelde

TPStorage develops plans for a Battery Energy Storage System (hereinafter referred to as BESS) into all its designs for the solar parks of TPSolar. The technical development and operation of these batteries will be carried out by TPStorage, while the technical development and operation of the solar park will stay with TPSolar. As will also happen with solar park Zuidvelde.

The environmental permit for Solar park Zuidvelde in the municipality of Noordenveld has been irrevocably granted, and the solar park is scheduled for completion from June 2025 onwards. A new permit process must be initiated for the EOS. The EOS will be completed in 2025 at the earliest.

What does a BESS do?

The large-scale storage of (renewable) energy is becoming increasingly important. This is because the electricity grid has limited capacity, making it increasingly difficult to use and/or produce electricity at every location and at every moment of the day. Energy storage systems (also known as ESS) are used to create space on the electricity grid. Energy storage can reduce and partly prevent grid congestion. Energy systems therefore contribute to climate targets, but they also provide energy security and stability and help to reduce energy prices.

What does BESS Zuidvelde look like?

The planned area for BESS Zuidvelde is located next to the site of TPSolar’s future Zuidvelde Solar Park. The battery system will have a capacity of 40 MW. This project consists of 36 battery containers and 6 transformer/inverter combinations.
